Reminiscing

I made this collage years ago, before I knew about PhotoShop and other editing softwares.  These were my early attempts at shooting flowers.  The pink and white lilies were taken at the Rockefeller Center, the vibrant yellow flowers  at Central Park, both in NYC.  The red and purple flowers were taken in London---at the Buckingham Palace garden and outside a restaurant called Blue Door Bistro.

I haven't done much traveling this year, and I miss it.  I miss the adventure, the sense of wonder in seeing something new, strange and wonderful.  Looking forward to new experiences in 2013.

Thank you to the fine ladies who host these two wonderful memes.  And to blogging friends who visited and continue to visit this page, my heartfelt 'thank you'.  May the New Year bring us joy, good health, prosperity and new adventures!

Let there be light!/Mellow Yellow Monday

“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.”

However you and your family celebrate Christmas, I wish you this:  Let there be light!

Looks like autumn/MYM

We don't have autumn here---edited this photo to get the look of autumn.  But it's really warm right now...it's as if it's summertime!

Pancit Palabok/MYM

Red Ribbon's yummy pancit palabok--rice noodles flavored with shrimp sauce, topped with shrimps, pork, pork crackling and boiled egg.  A twist calamansi for a zesty and citrusy flavor.

Make your own/Mellow Yellow Monday & Signs

I visited this stuffed toy store recently while looking for a personalized gift for my 10-year old niece.  Here, you get to choose from  their zoo of furry friends, and customize the amount of cotton stuffing, scent, clothes and accessories.  It even comes in a box with its own birth certificate!

Wildflower/Mellow Yellow Monday

"And do not change. Do not divert your love from visible things. But go on loving what is good, simple and ordinary; animals and things and flowers, and keep the balance true.” ~ Rilke

Mango/Mellow Yellow Monday

A fabulous variety of mango I got from ECJ Farms.  This mango is about the size of a baby's head, and weighs more than a kilo.  And it tastes absolutely great--it doesn't have the "antibiotic" flavor and fiber of an apple mango!  ECJ Farms grow this variety in Dipolog.  I kept coming back for more until ECJ Farms' store in Tiendesitas ran out of stock.:p

Misquoted/Mellow Yellow Monday

Yellow banners along Roxas Boulevard to commemorate Ninoy Aquino's assassination on August 21st.  Printed on these banners is "Filipinos are worth dying for" but what Ninoy Aquino actually said was "The Filipino is worth dying for."

Inspired by the song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree", allies of Ninoy Aquino tied yellow ribbons around Metro Manila in August 1983 when the former senator was returning home to the Philippines from the US after years of exile.  The gesture was to show support, and as a sign that they still believed in him as a leader to oppose the Marcos dictatorship.  After Ninoy's assassination on August 21, yellow was adopted by the opposition as their color.

Sailing/Mellow Yellow Monday

On a day
when the wind is perfect,
the sail just needs to open and the world is full of beauty.
Today is such a
day.
