Sign @ The Rizal Shrine

@ mirandablue
A marker at the Rizal Shrine in the walled city of Intramuros in Manila.  I'm posting this sign to commemorate Dr. Jose Rizal's 150th birthday on June 19th.

It is a useless life that is not consecrated to a great ideal.  It is like a stone wasted on the field without becoming a part of any edifice.  ~ Jose Rizal

Oh that's right and also appropriate posting for the recently celebrated Independence Day.

Barracks turned into homes for soldiers and families and then destroyed in another war.

Sad to say, I know very little about the Philippine Revolution!

Very timely - maligayang kaarawan, Gat Jose Rizal!

I don't know much about your history, so I googled Rizal... What a man! Very diverse. A shame that he only lived 35 years.

It's a shame that it was destroyed after 300+ years, but good that the importance was recognized.

Thanks for the history lesson; I'm woefully ignorant.
