Duranta repens

Golden Dewdrop, Pigeon berry, Duranta repens

A large erect shrub growing to a height of 1-3 meters, with straggling and drooping branches.  Flowers have a mild sweet vanilla-like scent, fruit is a cluster of  bright orange-yellow berries, fleshy, and slightly poisonous.  Cultivated as an ornamental, usually as hedge or fence screen.

The flowers take the tears of weeping night, and give them to the sun for the day's delight.

Mellow Yellow Monday #10: Duranta repens

@ mirandablue
  • Botanical Name: Duranta erecta ‘Geisha Girl’ or ‘Sweet Memories’ (synonym: Duranta repens)
  • Common Name: Pigeon Berry, Golden Dewdrop, Skyflower
Spotted this shrub abundant with small globose yellow berries along the highway in Davao City, near Malagos Garden Resort.  Golden Dewdrop are cultivated as ornamental plant, and the blossoms attract butterflies and hummingbirds. The berries and leaves, however, are toxic, and are confirmed to have killed children, dogs and cats.  However, songbirds eat the fruits without ill effects. (source:  Wikipedia)
