Mellow Yellow Monday #10: Duranta repens

@ mirandablue
  • Botanical Name: Duranta erecta ‘Geisha Girl’ or ‘Sweet Memories’ (synonym: Duranta repens)
  • Common Name: Pigeon Berry, Golden Dewdrop, Skyflower
Spotted this shrub abundant with small globose yellow berries along the highway in Davao City, near Malagos Garden Resort.  Golden Dewdrop are cultivated as ornamental plant, and the blossoms attract butterflies and hummingbirds. The berries and leaves, however, are toxic, and are confirmed to have killed children, dogs and cats.  However, songbirds eat the fruits without ill effects. (source:  Wikipedia)

Those golden dewdrops are SO pretty to look at, but I always think it's sayang when berries are poisonous.

[I went to Quiapo for the Feast of Black Nazarene... yes, you guessed right, a photo walk! Haven't had the time to present any procession photos yet... needs more work to explain than others, I think. Thanks for the embellishment of the story of the suman. That's so fun!]

Too pretty. The berries are just as colorful as flowers--nice shot.

My first time to see a yellow berries too. And it's kind of weird that if the birds could it eat why can't we. Looking at it, likes to cut some of the twigs and make it a table centerpiece that would be gorgeous!! ^_^ Happy Monday and thanks for the visit!

It seems so many truly beautiful flowers and plants are, indeed, harmful, even fatal, to humans!!! I remember planting a yellow alamanda in the first house I owned in Florida and uprooting it when my son began walking. He loved it and would constantly walk toward it and pull the blossoms.
