Photos from my archive: The fish ladder at the Ballard Locks in Seattle. Built to allow salmon pass between fresh and salt water, and to navigate the locks. Glass panels below the water line make it possible to watch the salmon as they swim through the ladder. After reading The Difficult Journey and watching salmon struggle against the current, I thought of not eating salmon again.

I know what a task it is for salmon to swim upstream but I would have a hard time giving up that delectable fish.

We visited the Ballard Locks a few weeks ago. The fish ladder was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. It was awesome to see the fish fighting to get up the ladder. It gave me a respect for the fish.
Their struggle for survival is indeed amazing!
I have been to the Ballard Locks a few times, but never when the salmon were running. Must be fun to see!
I have been fortunate to have witnessed salmon migration (?) as they go back to the ocean. It's really difficult, they have so many obstacles to conquer.
Ii enjoy salmon too much to give it up.

I would just have to turn my head or stick my fingers in my ears and go "La, la, la", for I, too, love salmon. Does that mean I am inhuman?
