Signs @ Culion Sanitarium

Signs at the Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital, a former leprosarium under the American Commonwealth of the Philippines.  Culion Island is one of the islands in the Calamian group of islands in northern Palawan.  It was selected as a leper colony in 1901.

These plaques at the former leprosarium serve as sobering reminders that there were dedicated professionals working on finding a solution to a painful medical condition.

I remember growing up thinking that leprosy was only a biblical times disease. This is a good reminder that it was not.

Interesting signs. Unfortunately leprosy is still a major problem in some parts of the world.

A good reminder of the work done to combat this terrible disease that people tend to forget.
