Hibiscus locally known as gumamela is cultivated as an ornamental flower throughout the Philippines. It is also a primary ingredient in many herbal teas. Gumamela flowers are used as an expectorant in bronchitis, for general coughs, and as a refrigerant drink in fevers. It is also used on mumps, hematomas, headaches and urinary tract infection.
